Southeast Missouri State University is a regional four-year public university enrolling 9000 students in nine colleges and schools. The University offers associate degrees, undergraduate and masters degrees, and a cooperative doctoral degree in education. The University is located in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, with branch campuses throughout the Southeast Missouri region. Cape Girardeau is a city of about 40,000 located on the Mississippi River between St. Louis and Memphis. In addition to its roles as a University town and manufacturing area, Cape Girardeau is a major service center for the Southeast Missouri region, with two full-service hospitals, many social services, banks, shopping, and recreation opportunities. Historically, Cape Girardeau has enjoyed high levels of employment, low taxes, and a favorable cost of living.
