The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Montclair State University is seeking to fill the Margaret and Herman Sokol Endowed Chair in Chemistry. The ideal candidate will be a scientist whose research focus is in the area of Medicinal or Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Montclair State University is New Jersey’s second largest university offering a rich array of programs to more than 17,000 undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students. The College of Science and Mathematics (CSAM) and Montclair State University have a deeply rooted commitment to the success of our students and works diligently to keep pace with changing academic needs in a rapidly changing world. We create and maintain relevant and current programs that cross disciplines and respond to regional, national and global needs. Within CSAM is the Margaret and Herman Sokol Institute for Pharmaceutical Life Sciences which was established in 2007 to rapidly advance the new skills, approaches and research that are critical to the development of tomorrow’s solutions to global health issues. The Institute supports trans-disciplinary research among College of Science and Mathematics faculty, students, and academic and industry collaborators in the areas of medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, biochemistry, natural products chemistry, molecular biology, computational sciences, environmental toxicology and pharmacology, and new emerging technologies such as biomaterials and nanotechnology. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry’s program is certified by the American Chemical Society Committee on Professional Training. It has programs leading to undergraduate degrees Chemistry and Biochemistry and has graduate programs leading to Masters Degrees in Chemistry, Chemistry with a concentration in Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Biochemistry. While centered in Richardson Hall, the Department also has laboratory facilities in Science Hall.
