Position Description:
We are seeking a Chemical Engineer to join the Carbon Management Division of the Research and Development Center.

The Carbon Management Division is responsible for pursuing research programs in the area of carbon management technological solutions, from both stationary and mobile sources through CO2 capture, utilization, conversion, and storage through reducing carbon footprint on all conversion processes, by efficiency improvements using advanced next generation technologies and approaches.

The Chemical Engineers’ primary role is for a dedicated and self-driven scientist, in the area of high temperature fuel cells, and electrochemical conversion and materials development. The selected candidate will be expected to work on solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) research activities, involving development of new electrode (anode and cathode, cell design) materials, for direct fed hydrocarbon SOFC applications suitable for distributed power, remote, and mobile applications.

Minimum Requirements:
As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in a Science/Engineering discipline from a recognized and approved program, with a Ph.D. in Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, and Chemistry/Material Science preferred.

You will possess 13 years professional experience, with at least 5 years working experience in high temperature fuel cell materials development and novel concepts.

You need to have experience in high temperature fuel cells, and demonstrate project completion in electrochemical research areas, through published papers in refereed journals and granted patents.

Demonstrated experience in developing novel concepts related to carbon management and new material synthesis for fuel cells. Working knowledge of fuel cells, electrochemical conversion, thermal, catalytic processes, and hydrocarbon conversion for fuel cell applications.

Holding a track record in new materials development, laboratory testing, and fuel cells.

Have knowledge of analytical chemistry and other analytical tools used for catalyst characterization. Involved in refining processes and carbon management economics (such as Life Cycle Analysis).

Proficient in IT with excellent computer skills using specialized software.

Excellent command of oral and written English, with capabilities to write and present technical papers.

Ability to work in diverse and cross-functional teams, and flexibility to work in different locations.
Ability to work in diverse teams to achieve common objectives with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Engineering design for chemical process development: Process Flow Diagram (PFD), Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (PID), and Process Design Package (PDP).

Demonstrated ability supervising contractors and in working with vendors. Strong project management and process documentation experience.

Experience with modeling tools such as PRO/II, HYSIS, ICARUS, and Solid Works, as well as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) packages, such as CFX; Fluent would be a distinct advantage.

Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following:

Lead and develop high temperature fuel cells for power generation, including lab scale evaluation and demonstrations.

Develop new cell materials and designs for direct fed hydrocarbon solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and specialty fuels, such as ammonia conversion and synthesis.

Conduct pre-feasibility and full feasibility studies of direct hydrocarbon/ammonia fed SOFC processes.

Provide hands-on assistance with the commissioning, operation, and maintenance of SOFC lab scale units. Lead the detailed engineering design effort, in conjunction with selected licensors, for pilot scale SOFC unit demonstrations.

Train young Saudi engineers, while keeping abreast with engineering and scientific developments of SOFC technologies.

Assist with project management requirements of the SOFC program within the carbon management team.

Ability to present results and reports at progress meetings, prepare papers for publication, and contribute toward project planning.
