Postdoctoral Research Position: Time-Resolved Spectroscopy in High Pressure Science

Department of Chemistry/Institute for Shock Physics

Description of Position
The Static High Pressure Research Group in the Department of Chemistry and the Institute for Shock Physics at Washington State University has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral research associate. This position requires an outstanding experimental scientist to conduct high-pressure and materials research activities, utilizing state-of-the-art laser spectroscopy in both time- and spatial- domains, x-ray diffraction and spectroscopy, and static high-pressure technologies at the WSU, as well as at national synchrotron and other user facilities. We are looking for a creative, self-motivated individual, who has the ability and interest to pursue challenging, interdisciplinary problems in a fast paced research environment.  


Only applicants who are currently in the U.S. and meet the following qualifications will be considered for the position:  
•    A recent Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Solid State Chemistry, Condensed Matter Physics or a closely related field.
•    A strong academic background and knowledge in areas related to time-resolved laser spectroscopy, crystallography, thermodynamics, transport properties, and mechanochemical processes.
•    Hands-on experience in using high-pressure and high-temperature technologies such as diamond-anvil cells (DAC), Q-switched solid-state lasers, fast electro-optics, laser- and ohmic-heating, and electric conductivity measurements.
•    Experience in using laser-spectroscopic techniques including conventional micro-Raman, FTIR, reflectivity measurements, short pulse lasers and time-resolved probes, as well as in performing research at national user facilities such as third generation synchrotron x-ray and neutron sources.
•    Excellent communication skills via scientific publications and technical presentations as well as good interpersonal skills necessary for a multi-disciplinary team research environment.
•    Must be able to obtain a badge at U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratories to gain access to restricted areas.
