The Cal State LA Dept. of Chemistry & Biochemistry is accepting the applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry.

Candidates for the position of assistant professor of Physical Chemistry must meet the following minimum qualifications: (1) an earned doctorate in Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics, or closely-related field from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered.  For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/16/18); (2) demonstrated research at the university level in the area of theoretical/computational chemistry; (3) evidence of publications in scholarly journals; (4) evidence of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate and/or graduate level; and (5) ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a multicultural/multiethnic urban campus environment with a substantial population of first-generation students.  Preferred qualifications for the position include: (1) post-doctoral research experience; and (2) experience mentoring undergraduate students in a research setting.  The selected applicant will be expected to establish a vigorous research program funded by external sources, publish peer-reviewed research papers, mentor and supervise undergraduate and Master’s research students, teach undergraduate and graduate physical chemistry courses and other courses in their area of expertise, develop additional courses as needed, participate in student advisement, and engage in service to the University.
