Analytical Environmental Chemistry

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Department of Chemistry at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Analytical Environmental Chemistry. The anticipated appointment date is for fall 2018. The successful candidate will establish an extramurally-funded research program.  Job responsibilities include teaching courses; mentoring undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students; and service to the department and University. Preference will be given to candidates whose research employs innovative approaches.  Areas of research that encompass nanotechnology for solving and identifying environmental problems, including applications in agriculture, sensing technologies, and water issues are desired.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, postdoctoral research experience, and a strong record of research accomplishments.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:  The Department of Chemistry is housed in the recently completed Chemistry and Computer Science building.  Major departmental facilities include NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometers, EPR, X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, SEM, TEM, BET, SPR, AFM, ICP, ICP-MS, and more. Candidates’ research should have a strong potential for extramural funding and for establishing collaborations.  The Department of Chemistry offers Ph.D. and an M.S, degrees in chemistry.  Faculty from Chemistry also have the opportunity to collaborate with students and faculty from the Environmental Science and Engineering Ph.D. Program and with the Materials Science and Engineering Ph.D. Program.  Please visit our webpage at CHEMISTRY.UTEP.EDU .
