The SIUE Department of Chemistry and the National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center (NCERC) are seeking to fill a tenure-track joint-appointment faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. This position is full time, with a joint-appointment between the two units and locus of tenure in the Department of Chemistry.

The successful candidate will teach three courses annually that support the Department of Chemistry. Teaching assignments will include courses and laboratories at both the undergraduate and graduate (MS) levels. The candidate will engage in scholarly work in any area with particular attention to fermentation chemistry, biofuels chemistry, agricultural chemistry and/ or bioanalytical chemistry. Specific research applications are encouraged in bioprocess and biotechnologies for advanced bioenergy, biochemical, biomaterials and bioproducts, complemented by value-added co-products. The successful candidate will involve chemistry students in their research program, seek external grants to support research, and produce scholarly publications. Service activities in support of the Department of Chemistry, College of Arts and Sciences, and the University are expected.

The successful candidate will also be a direct contributor to scientific and technical excellence at NCERC. The scientist will work with other NCERC personnel to develop contractual service agreements and research proposals as well as provide reports to clients and funding agencies. The scientist will develop and strengthen collaborations, including the formation and facilitation of external expert teams for NCERC and will engage new strategic partners to utilize the unique facilities NCERC possesses. The scientist will identify and pursue funding opportunities with federal and state agencies, trade associations and private sector industry clients. Current facility programs include: pilot plant validation and testing; collaboratively solving industry problems; certifying processes, products, and reagents; laboratory method development and analysis; and internships, education and workforce training. The successful candidate will seek external grants to support research and produce scholarly publications. Service activities in support of the NCERC and the University are expected.

Minimum Qualifications
A doctoral degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field is required. The successful candidate must have demonstrated interest in the renewable energy field with a documented body of knowledge and vision about fermentation science, advanced bioenergy, and the importance of the bioeconomy. Post-doctoral research and/or teaching experience is preferred.

Terms of Appointment
Full-time, tenure-track appointment, available immediately. The start date for the position will be July 1, 2018. This is a 9-month academic year appointment, with summer salary negotiated through Chemistry and NCERC.
