The position typically carries a teaching load of four one-semester lecture and four one-semester lab courses per year, and requires ongoing scholarly activity in the form of publications and presentations. The chemistry department offers five majors: B.A. in chemistry, B.A. in chemistry with a biochemistry concentration, B.A. in chemistry with a business concentration, B.S. in chemistry, and B.S. in chemistry with a biochemistry concentration. Beginning spring semester 2018, all lab courses will be taught in state-of-the-art laboratories. The new facilities include three teaching labs, an instrumentation laboratory, a laboratory for undergraduate research, and a new stockroom.

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements: Ph.D. in organic chemistry in-hand by July 1, 2018, an aptitude for exceptional teaching at the undergraduate level, and evidence of scholarly promise. Applicants must also demonstrate a clear understanding of and commitment to teaching at a liberal arts institution. Applications are sought from those who have demonstrated success working with diverse populations and share Hollins’ commitment to preparing students for leadership opportunities in a broadly diverse, global society. Final candidates will be subject to a criminal history background check.

Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a separate statement of teaching philosophy, a statement of research plans suitable for undergraduate participation, three letters of recommendation, and graduate school transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable) to chemsearch@hollins.edu. Applications received by February 15, 2018 will receive full consideration.
