King’s College London (KCL) is one of the top 25 universities in the world (2018 QS World University Rankings) and the fourth oldest university in England. A research-led university based in the heart of London, it has over 30,000 students from nearly 150 countries, and more than 8,000 employees.

The Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (IPS) brings researchers from different disciplines to work towards the discovery of novel therapeutics and formulations that can be evaluated in patients. Ranked 9th in the world (2018 QS World University Rankings) for Pharmacy and Pharmacology, IPS has leading research strengths in Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Discovery, Metal Biology, Pulmonary Pharmacology & Drug Delivery, and Medicines Use.

We are now looking for a leader who can develop the Institute, building upon existing strengths and working with diverse areas of relevant expertise across KCL and King’s Health Partners. As a member of the School’s Executive, the Head of IPS will represent, manage and lead the Institute, an academic department of the School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences, housed within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine. Staff within the Institute contribute to the Faculty’s portfolio of science and clinically based teaching programmes, providing leadership in undergraduate Pharmacy education and postgraduate programmes in drug and medicines development.

This post offers an exceptional opportunity for a visionary leader with a strong commitment to education and research, including in the areas such as advanced therapeutics and translational medicine, to shape and influence the Institute. The successful candidate will have a background in pharmacy or pharmacology, and a track-record of having worked across the multiple disciplines that pharmaceutical science encompasses.

The Institute is ambitious in its aim to develop pharmaceutical science at KCL and along with the position of Head, several academic positions will be advertised in due course to support the delivery of the strategic vision.
