An NIH-funded postdoctoral position in the Department of Biochemistry at Vanderbilt University is available. This research will primarily investigate the chemistry and biochemistry of the pyrimidopurinone DNA adduct, M1dG, and its oxidation product, 6-oxo-M1dG, in both genomic and mitochondrial DNA. Studies will include determining pathophysiological conditions in vivo favoring M1dG formation and oxidation, assessing the mutagenic properties and repair pathways for 6-oxo-M1dG, and investigating the presence and role of these adducts in disease states. Additionally, studies will probe the effects of these adducts on epigenetic regulation.
Vanderbilt has a collegial, collaborative research culture and a suite of state-of-the-art core facilities covering a broad range of technologies. These include facilities in mass spectrometry, structural biology (including X-ray, NMR, and CryoEM), DNA sequencing and genotyping, molecular imaging, high throughput screening, human genotype/phenotype association, and many more.
A background in DNA damage and analysis, including mass spectrometry, is desirable along with experience in cell culture. Applicants should have strong writing and communications skills, an interest in mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students, and a desire to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary work environment.
Vanderbilt University’s Office of Biomedical Research, Education, and Training is strongly committed to all aspects of post-doctoral training including career development.
Prospective candidates should send their application materials to Professor Larry Marnett (email@example.com), with the subject line: “Postdoctoral Research Position.” Application materials should include a CV, the names and addresses of three professional references, and a cover letter outlining the applicant’s research experience and interests. A competitive salary and benefits package is available. The initial appointment will be for 12 months, with additional 12-month extensions possible based on performance and/or availability of funds. The position is available immediately.
