Associate Director – Medicinal Chemistry
The Center for Medicinal and Synthetic Chemistry in SRI Biosciences, a Division of SRI International, invites applications for an Associate Director Level position. We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative scientist with industry experience in medicinal chemistry, and/or chemical biology with research in the area of drug discovery. The successful candidate should have an outstanding track record having contributed to multiple drug discovery and development programs that have progressed to IND. She/he will join a team of synthetic chemists, engineers, analytical chemists and computational scientists dedicated to the streamlining of drug discovery through automation. The goal of the successful candidate will be to work with the team to integrate a growing set of automation tools to create a world leading, cutting edge small molecule drug discovery center. The person should be motivated to contribute intellectually in a dynamic team environment. In addition to establishing their own programs, the candidate will lead / assist in drug discovery efforts and / or synthetic chemistry. There are extensive opportunities to collaborate with SRI scientists working in disease areas such as cancer, infectious disease, immunology, metabolism, and neurosciences as well as identify and build collaborations with researchers outside of SRI. He/she should be comfortable with working in a soft money environment and be willing to attract funding to support their programs in collaboration with other researchers at SRI.
The successful candidate will interact with scientists within the Center, the Biosciences Division, and/or SRI more broadly to create research efforts of unique value; to foster interactions with academic and industrial partners; and to establish an internationally-recognized, externally-funded research program both as PI and as a team member. The ideal candidate should possess excellent managerial skills, work well in multi-disciplinary groups, be able to drive exploratory research projects forward while focusing on drug discovery, balance participation in multiple projects, ensure research timelines, and serve as a lead chemist for discovery teams. Experience and / or interest in AI driven drug discovery, flow chemistry, chemistry automation, and high-throughput chemistry is required. The level of the position will be commensurate with experience and funding track-record.

The successful candidate will be a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related field and at least 8-10 years professional experience. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of synthetic chemistry and biochemistry; experience in drug development, flow chemistry, structure based design, parallel synthesis and library development, and lead optimization; a history of scientific achievement and scientific innovation demonstrated by publications and patents; demonstrated leadership skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; and should work well in interdisciplinary team-based groups.
A post-offer, pre-laboratory physical examination may be required. Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment will be subject to a background check.
