The Department of Chemistry and Environmental Science (CES) at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications and nominations for Department Chair. The successful candidate will articulate a compelling vision for continued growth and development of the Department in research, teaching, and service across the chemical and environmental sciences. Duties will range from managing the Department’s administrative functions, curricula, budget and facilities, to aggressively promoting externally-funded research and outreach to recruit high quality undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates are expected to have an internationally recognized record of scholarly work commensurate with appointment at the rank of tenured Associate Professor or Professor. Successful candidates are expected to have a synergistic impact on existing research programs, participate in externally-funded research involving graduate students, and demonstrate a commitment to innovation in undergraduate and graduate education. Minimum qualification is a Ph.D. degree in chemistry, environmental science, or a closely related field, from an accredited institution. Administrative skills, service on key university or organizational committees, and faculty experience in a comprehensive chemistry or environmental science department are preferred. Applications from National Labs or other Research organizations are also encouraged. The successful candidate can expect competitive salary, start-up funds, and renovated research space.

The Department of CES at NJIT, within the College of Science and Liberal Arts, is in a dynamic growth phase, with eight new hires in the past five years and a recent renovation and expansion of facilities. Our twelve tenured and tenure-track faculty, together with twelve full-time lecturers and staff, have diverse teaching and research interests and a strong commitment to the success of our approximately 93 undergraduate, 35 M.S., and 34 Ph.D. students enrolled in the department’s degree programs. The Department offers BS, MS, and PhD Chemistry, BS Biochemistry, MS Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and BS, MS, and PhD Environmental Science degrees, and the only BS degree in Forensic Science in New Jersey.
