Department Head in the Department of Chemistry and Physics
Southeastern Louisiana University (in Hammond, LA) is searching for a Department Head in the Department of Chemistry and Physics to serve beginning in the 2019-20 academic year. This twelve-month position is primarily responsible for advancing the culture of academic excellence where distinction in teaching, research, scholarship, and service is expected and rewarded. As the link between the faculty and the central administration, the Head is expected to provide leadership for curriculum development, implementation, and the assessment of student learning. The Head is also responsible for managing all budgets related to the Department and teaching undergraduate courses in the Department. The Head should be a driving force behind the development and enhancement of research programs, scholarly efforts, and strategic initiatives that further the Department and College strategic plans, such as the recruiting/retention of a diverse student population, integrated research, and developing partnerships with industry and the local community.
Minimum qualifications must include a terminal degree in a discipline directly related to Chemistry or Physics. Credentials should be commensurate with a faculty appointment at the associate or full professor level. A proven record of excellence in research and teaching is expected, as are outstanding interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to equal opportunity and diversity. Preference will be given to individuals with experience cultivating beneficial relationships outside their department. Experience with accreditation and relevant professional societies, such as ACS, AIC, APS, AAS, or AIP, is desired.
