NIH post-doctoral research associate position
The Center for the Study of Tobacco Products (CSTP) at the American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon, seeks applicants for an NIH post-doctoral research associate position. The research associate will study the physical and chemical processes of electronic cigarette; and other nicotine delivery devices. CSTP is one of 14 US FDA/NIH Tobacco Centers for Regulatory Science and involves a team of researchers from AUB, Johns Hopkins University, and the Virginia Commonwealth University. The overall purpose of the Center is to develop tools that allow regulatory bodies to predict intended and unintended health consequences of proposed tobacco product regulations designed to protect public health.
At AUB, the CSTP is comprised of the Aerosol Research Laboratory and the Atmospheric and Analytical Laboratory. In addition to working on inhalable aerosols, other projects pertaining to atmospheric aerosols, emission sources, and secondary particle formation are also actively pursued in the two labs. The CSTP has a vibrant, fast-moving research environment with strong international and interdisciplinary collaborations.
The successful candidate for this position is expected to hold a Ph.D. in analytical, aerosol, or atmospheric chemistry or related field. She or he will be heavily involved in developing and applying novel analytical chemistry methods for quantifying toxicants in electronic cigarette aerosols and will learn state-of-the-art methods in aerosol particle characterization and tobacco regulatory science. The successful candidate will be co-mentored by Professors Najat Saliba and Alan Shihadeh.
Set on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the AUB has a green campus dotted with historic and contemporary buildings, a state of the art athletics complex, and is located in the heart of the vibrant city of Beirut which offers numerous venues for the arts, entertainment, and community engagement. It is also located one hour’s drive from the ski slopes of Mt. Lebanon, and a wide variety of hiking, caving, paragliding, and cycling terrain.
