Associate/Full Professor, Chair - Chemistry
NYIT’s Department of Life Sciences/Chemistry, College of Arts and Sciences has initiated a national search for a tenured Chairperson at the Associate/Full Professor rank.
The Life Sciences Department of NYIT combines the disciplines of Biology and Chemistry. Our Long Island campus has approximately 500 students majoring in biology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, chemistry, and premed studies.
NYIT (New York Institute of Technology) offers 90 degree programs, including undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees, in more than 50 fields of study, including architecture and design; arts and sciences; education; engineering and computing sciences; health professions; management; and osteopathic medicine. A non-profit independent, private institution of higher education, NYIT has 9,000 students at campuses in New York City (Manhattan) and Long Island (Old Westbury) in New York; Jonesboro, Arkansas; Vancouver, British Columbia; and in various programs around the world. The successful applicant will oversee and provide leadership for all academic and research activities of the Department. We are looking for an insightful leader who can advance an inspiring vision for the Department’s future; who is committed to growing and achieving prestige through the success of the department, its members, the institution and student body. The candidate should have a record of professional achievement. S/he is expected to have federal funding and an active research program. The new chairperson will have demonstrated ability to recruit, select and retain excellent faculty by providing mentorship and an environment conducive to professional development and scholarly achievement.
Life Sciences faculty research interests are diverse, including medicinal and organic chemistry, neuroscience, cell and molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, virology, computational chemistry, analytical chemistry, epigenetics, and advanced sequencing technology development. Faculty in the Department of Life Sciences have ample opportunity to collaborate with faculty at the NYIT College of Engineering and Computer Sciences and the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine.
A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline. A record of scholarly activity appropriate for the rank and evidence of successful undergraduate teaching. Demonstration of collaborative and/or interdisciplinary research is preferred. Applicants must have a history of significant scholarly achievement, funded research, and membership in good standing in appropriate professional organizations.

Projected starting date is Fall 2019 with primary teaching responsibilities at the Long Island campus, and with occasional teaching in New York City campus.
