Basic Function

Perform work involving the development of new nanoscale materials and chemical systems. Provide professional advice and assistance in the resolution of substantial laboratory-related technical problems in the areas of chemistry; chemical, petroleum or civil engineering; industrial microbiology; or other applied industrial sciences associated with operational problems in Company facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide professional advice and assistance in a specialized area of technology such as industrial, analytical or physical chemistry; microbiology; geotechnical or other specialized areas of civil engineering; petroleum or chemical engineering
  • Design and carry out state-of-the-art synthesis and/or scaled-up production with minimum supervision in a research program focused on new nanoscale materials and chemicals for Reservoir Engineering
  • Perform laboratory experiments and help create and analyze new material and chemical systems for new product applications using knowledge and skills in the areas of chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science
  • Assess the potential for reservoir applications of cutting-edge responsive nanomaterials systems from academia and other industries that employ biomimetic, self-assembling, programmed-release or targeted-delivery approaches to achieve advanced functionalities.
  • Carry out original investigations relating to technical problems outside the scope of available literature
  • Keep current with significant developments in the field of specialization; is expected to use these in high investigative assignments when applicable
  • Make comprehensive professional reports of investigations and review existing patents
  • Maintain and update working knowledge of applicable state-of- the-art laboratory instrumentation preferably including liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and NMR
  • Provide and manage a safe, accident-free laboratory environment and follow all company safety rules in performing job duties
  • Lead collaborative research with other R&D areas of the company, e.g., analytical chemistry, process engineering, applications, etc. for increased intellectual property opportunities and future business advancement of Aramco Services Company (ASC) or Saudi Aramco
  • Publish in relevant journals and present in conferences
  • Serve as a team leader or participate in major investigative projects as assigned
  • Perform other miscellaneous related duties as requested

Education and Experience

  • B.S. Degree in Science/Engineering/Physics/Mathematics Discipline as appropriate for the area of expertise for the assigned job; Ph.D. degree in Synthetic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other Materials Science preferred
  • Seven years (7) experience in a substantive industrial, technological or laboratory area relevant to the jobs assignment
  • Direct experience with cutting-edge “smart” or responsive nanomaterials systems that may employ biomimetic, self-assembling, programmed-release or targeted-delivery approaches to advanced functionality for reservoir applications
  • Strong knowledge and skills in design, synthesis, and/or scaled-up production of nanomaterials and chemicals preferred
  • Specific experience and expertise with nanomaterials synthesis, handling, and best EHS practices preferred
  • Candidate should be comfortable in working independently or part of a project team, frequent project presentation and travel to meetings at conferences and universities
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly, and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
