The Department of Chemistry at the University of Calgary has over 500 undergraduate and 100 graduate students and 80 academic and support staff.  Our innovative approach builds a strong community through teaching, learning, research, scholarship and collaborative partnerships.  We conduct transformative research in sustainable energy and carbon capture as well as in chemical education. Reporting to the Dean of Science, the Department Head serves as the chief academic and administrative officer for all aspects of the management, operation and development of the Chemistry department.  The Head recognizes opportunities and promotes academic and research activities through interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation among colleagues.  The Head should be a relationship builder and strong communicator, demonstrating a passion for teaching, learning and research in Chemistry, while being the primary advocate and liaison for the department.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, collaborative leader and distinguished scholar in any area of Chemistry.  They demonstrate a notable track record in teaching, research excellence and community engagement.  The successful candidate will have an earned PhD along with academic qualifications commensurate with an appointment With Tenure at the rank of  Associate Professor, as well as proven leadership and administrative proficiency.  Candidates with industry experience are also encouraged to apply.  The appointment as Head is for a five-year period with the possibility of renewal.
