New College of Florida invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Chemistry starting in August, 2019 to run through May, 2020. There is a possibility that the visiting position could extend beyond May 2020, subject to available funding. A Ph.D. in Chemistry is required by the time of appointment, with a preferred qualification of expertise in Inorganic Chemistry.

New College is committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty. Candidates from underrepresented groups, women, and those whose knowledge or skills support an inclusive culture and learning environment are especially encouraged to apply.

The teaching load is two courses per semester (with each section of a lab counting as a course) plus sponsoring individual and group tutorials, independent study projects, and senior theses. Our primary need is for applicants who can teach Inorganic Chemistry and its associated lab. Depending on the needs of the chemistry program, other courses (including advanced electives) could be offered as well. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to innovative undergraduate liberal arts teaching.

Situated on the Gulf Coast of Florida and Sarasota Bay, New College (http://www.ncf.edu) is a nationally recognized, selective public honors college with a 10:1 student/faculty ratio. Students are intellectually independent and highly motivated. Undergraduate research has a central role in the curriculum, and a senior thesis/project is required of all students. Students receive narrative evaluations in lieu of grades. New College is committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and research and encourages collaborative student-faculty scholarship. Facilities of note include a new wing of the science building, a new 400 MHz JEOL NMR, an MBRAUN solvent purification system, and several glove boxes.

Interested candidates should apply online at http://www.ncf.edu/employment and should provide 1) a cover letter, 2) a curriculum vitae, and 3) an unofficial graduate transcript. In addition, provide 4) a statement about teaching philosophy, 5) a statement regarding the candidate’s contributions or approaches to supporting an inclusive culture and learning environment, and 6) the names of three references (including at least one who can address teaching). Candidates are also welcome to include an optional description of proposed research (including how undergraduates would be involved). Review of completed applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. According to Florida law, applications and meetings regarding applications are open to the public upon request. Applicants who need reasonable accommodations in order to participate in the selection process must notify the chair of the search committee 48 hours in advance of a meeting. New College is an Equal Opportunity/Equal Access Institution.
