Job Details

A full-time postdoctoral research position starting in the summer of 2019 is available in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Appella, Senior Investigator in the Intramural Research Program at NIDDK, NIH. The objective of our research is to use chemical synthesis of mercaptobenzamide derivatives and chemically designed Peptide Nucleic Acids (PNAs) to uncover novel facets of biology, design new therapeutics, and develop diagnostic devices for human diseases (for background, see: Org. Lett.2018, 7637; Chemistry, 2018, 9485; Nature Communications20145, 5079.).  In this position, the ideal candidate will design and synthesize mercaptobenzamides and also perform all aspects of PNA synthesis, purification, and characterization.  Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a field of science that provides the necessary chemical background for this work, and be willing to perform some biochemical protocols, interact with biological collaborators, and have experience writing scientific manuscripts. Interested candidates should send a C.V. (listing three references) and cover letter to Daniel Appella (appellad@niddk.nih.gov). HHS, NIH, and NIDDK are Equal Opportunity Employers
