NON-TENURE TRACK – LECTURER IN CHEMISTRY
The Foundational Sciences Division at Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG), invites applications for a full-time (nine-month/year), non-tenure track Lecturer in Chemistry. A Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Chemistry or closely aligned field with relevant teaching and instrumentation experience will also be considered. The desired start date is September 1st, 2019.
Faculty on the Lecturer track is expected to have a strong commitment to effectiveness in instruction/teaching. S/he is expected to teach introductory and sophomore level laboratory courses and take responsibility for the instrumentation in the chemistry labs. S/he will also work closely with the research faculty in Marine Sciences and Marine Biology departments to maintain instruments such as GCMS, IR, NMR, HPLC, TOC and possibly others depending upon their expertise, and to help train graduate students in their use. The successful candidate will assist with operations of the chemistry teaching labs, including but not limited to the learning management and digital support systems. It is a plus if s/he might also be able and willing to teach introductory and sophomore level physics or mathematics lab courses, if needed. Other duties will include service to the department and the University.
As a branch campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, the Galveston campus functions much like a school or college within the larger university, to deliver ocean-oriented education, research, and public service in a variety of marine/maritime programs. It houses the only state maritime training academy located on the Gulf of Mexico. In addition, the campus works in partnership with the College of Engineering to support growth in the interdisciplinary program and the freshman engineering entry to a major program. Instructional programs are delivered primarily at the 130-acre Mitchell Campus on Pelican Island, near the mouth of Galveston Bay.
