Lecturer Chemistry Maastricht Science Programme​

The Maastricht Science Programme is looking for an enthusiastic lecturer with expertise in physical chemistry or inorganic chemistry to join our dynamic international team to sustain our ongoing growth.

Description
In September 2011, Maastricht University started bachelor education in the natural sciences with the Maastricht Science Programme. Currently, the Maastricht Science Programme enrols more than 400 students from over 50 countries. The Maastricht Science Programme is embedded in the Faculty of Science and Engineering and follows the ‘Liberal Arts and Sciences’ tradition, with an emphasis on student centred learning in a small-scale college community. At the Maastricht Science Programme, this student centredlearning is characterized by the opportunity for students to build their own curriculum in the natural sciences, intensive staff-student interactions in small groups, community building, extracurricular activities and personal guidance. The programme is taught in English and is highly selective. Combined with the unique strengths of Maastricht University, such as problem-based learning, an international focus and working at the edge of research and entrepreneurship in an inspiring environment, the Maastricht Science Programme offers an innovative concept of education in the natural sciences. Lectures and group meetings of the Maastricht Science Programme take place in the city of Maastricht, whereas the practical parts (skills, projects, undergraduate research) of the programme are carried out in our new laboratories at theBrightlands Chemelot Campus near Geleen.​

We are searching for a talented and motivated candidate with a solid background in inorganic or physical chemistry to join our team. The candidate should have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, which is the main focus of this position. The candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching chemistry courses, and the supervision and development of skills and research projects for bachelor students. In addition, the candidate will supervise bachelor thesis research. Candidates with a multidisciplinary interest and willingness to cross boundaries between scientific disciplines are especially encouraged to apply. The lecturer will also be expected to become an active part of our community, advising students, coordinating parts of ourprogramme, organizing activities, building a scientific network for our students to explore and establishing contacts with other faculties within Maastricht, the Netherlands and across the world.​

Requirements
The ideal candidate has a PhD in chemistry, preferably with a background in physical chemistry or inorganic chemistry, and values teaching at the undergraduate level. Post-doctoral experience is considered an advantage. Good familiarity with chemistry teaching at the bachelor level in an international college setting would be considered an asset. He/she has an excellent command of the English language and flourishes well in an international setting. The ideal candidate stimulates learning, is approachable to students and will readily interact with colleagues within Maastricht University and with other knowledge and business partners.​

We offer:

  • A lecturer position (level depending on qualifications).
  • Initially a temporary 2 year contract. Depending on the further development of the programme and performance, a permanent position is possible.
  • From €3255,- scale 10/ step 4  to  a  maximum of  €4978,-, scale 11 depending of experience and qualifications.

  • A PhD in chemistry
  • An excellent track record, which reflects a strong commitment to science and engineering education
  • An excellent command of the English language and you flourish well in an international setting and rapidly developing environment.
  • Good familiarity with science teaching at the bachelor level in an international college setting would be considered an asset when applying.
  • Post-doctoral experience would be considered an asset when applying
