DuPont is currently recruiting for a Principal Investigator (Fiber Spinning Expert) for the Applied BioSciences Business. The Applied BioSciences business is currently developing a number of products and applications using the Sorona® PTT polymer. The team is engaged in research and development as well as consulting with customers on existing applications for the Sorona® PTT materials. There is a new opportunity to participate in developing both Sorona® PTT as a carpet and apparel fiber. This development requires a scientist or engineer who can work with the existing team to develop new technology and to solve problems with existing products serving global customers. - Specifically, this individual will be involved in assessing the impact of modifications of the polymer, spinning fiber within DuPont and at the customers facilities to develop both the process and to assess the products, help develop dye packages to dye fiber and polymer effectively and help our customers develop predominantly carpet products using our materials, but may be asked to assist customers making apparel as well.
- The successful incumbent will come to the position having knowledge and experience in spinning fiber and advance their knowledge further by learning from the experienced personnel how to spin successfully Sorona® fiber from polymer; additionally, the successful incumbent will come with knowledge and experience in how to texture and dye (color) Sorona® PTT materials. In this way, we can assist our customers to be able to create products using Sorona® PTT with their systems and equipment.
- The individual in this position will be the guardian for spinning of Sorona® fiber (predominantly carpet, but also apparel) and will also work to help the customer with operations downstream to spinning for both carpet and apparel.

Requirements |
|
- A Ph.D. degree or the educational equivalent in a scientific or engineering field.
- At least 5 years of Industrial experience. (preferred)
- Knowledge of polymer materials and polymer processing.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Ability to interface effectively with customers in both a one-on-one setting as well as presentations to larger groups.
- Ability to be effective in a rapidly growing, dynamic & often changing business environment.
Additional Skills Sought: - Knowledge of fiber spinning, especially nylon or PET.
- Knowledge of dyes and dye systems and texturing methods used with textile fibers (nylon, PET or PPT).
- Understanding of how carpets & how apparel is made.
- Overall understanding of how polymer is converted into finished fabric is desirable.
