Specific functions include: • Design, plan and solve problems as well as perform hands-on laboratory R&D on a routine basis to support production, client projects and/or other technical activities, meeting the deadlines. • Assist the Development Manager in writing project proposals, publication/patent manuscript and reports, and manage projects on time in an ISO environment while maintaining a safe work practice. • Develop technical proposals, set technical objectives, and lead/conduct technical work in the area of organic/organometallic chemistry relevant to homogeneous catalysis. • Prepare project proposals, schedule and manage projects to time, budget and quality specifications and maintain close client contact to communicate project progress. • Ensure effective technology transfer of these projects between CCT and the clients and develop/train selected staff in these projects. • Perform technical interface with client; provide technical support for client presentations and new project development in liaison with R & D Manager. • Support US management in client visits, client presentations, and development of new projects. • Work with Ph. D and non-Ph.D colleagues in a diverse global group and ensure effective technology transfer of these projects between CCT units in UK and Indias • Assist in developing technical staff, and plan/implement future requirements for laboratory facilities and equipment. • Prepare and present, as required, verbal and written reports summarizing technical activities and related costs. • Ensure effective technology transfer between Johnson Matthey manufacturing departments and JM sites/clients. • Develop and maintain automated and paper systems to maintain accurate, retrievable records of all technical work activities ensuring compliance with all Johnson Matthey and client trade secret/confidentiality requirements. • Participate in manuscript in preparation of peer reviewed journal articles, patent draft, technical articles and flyers. • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and security programs, OSHA guidelines and state/federal regulations and township ordinances. Additionally, the incumbent will ensure the maintenance of the quality and health, safety and environmental ISO certifications. • Work with sales and marketing to develop client projects/proposals, and interface with clients through all stages of projects under the supervision of the R & D Manager. • Interact with pilot lab and plant chemists in terms of supervision, and tech transfer of the projects and process in an ISO environment. • Frequent travel is required to maintain client relations.
Qualifications/Experience Necessary • Ph.D. in Organic/Organometallic Chemistry with post-doctoral or industrial R&D experience in Organic Chemistry, homogeneous catalysis and laboratory scale-up. • Experience in air-sensitive chemistry, catalysis and scale-up a plus. • Experience in organo-phosphine based ligand synthesis is also desirable. • Hands on experience in instrumentation techniques such as GC- MS, HPLC, IR and NMR spectroscopy are essential. • Strong background in maintaining and collecting literature information relevant to the area of research. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment. • Strong background in maintaining and collecting literature information relevant to the area of research.
