Job Description
Sandia National Laboratories is one of the country’s largest research and engineering laboratories, employing 8,100 people at major facilities in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Livermore, California. Please visit our website at www.sandia.gov. We are searching for Post Docs in Nuclear/Nanoparticle Materials for the Surface and Interface Science Department at the Albuquerque facility. The salary is $80,000 per year. A benefit and relocation package is available. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.

Engage various methods of inorganic nanoparticle synthesis, nuclear fuel surrogate alloys and oxides (e.g., depleted uranium), particle formation growth and stability studies. Closely interface and collaborate with other researchers both internal and external. Under mentor's guidance, the postdoctoral candidate must be independently conduct various research-related activities including nanoparticle formation, nanoparticle analytical methods including TEM and UV-Vis characterization, and organic surface modification of nanoparticles. State-of-the-art facilities are available for materials growth, fabrication and measurements.

Requirements
A recent PhD in the area of chemistry, materials science, nuclear materials, condensed matter physics, or chemical engineering is required. Experience with the synthesis of uranium containing materials, electron microscopies (e.g., HRTEM, SEM), UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, and/or physical analytical methods (e.g., surface area analysis, chemical analysis (ICP-MS), FTIR) is highly desirable. Significant experience or familiarity with, and the willingness to quickly master, most or all of these techniques is highly desired. Technical background and scientific interest relevant for mastering gamma ray-based radiolytic nanoparticle synthesis techniques is highly desired. Should be able to demonstrate effective soft skills appropriate for successfully interfacing with a wide variety of internal and external collaborators in various projects. Capable of achieving a U.S Department of Energy L security clearance is desired.
