Corn Milling North America R&D is seeking a highly motivated chemist with deep understanding of organic chemistry, biochemistry, and/or carbohydrate chemistry to join our team in Dayton, Ohio. CMNA R&D is comprised of applied researchers specializing in food science, engineering, biochemistry, chemistry, analytical science, and microbiology. The R&D Team develops new products and processes, improves existing processes, and diagnoses process challenges in our plants. R&D works with the Corn Milling Process Development Groups, Quality Assurance, Commercial Leadership, and Technical Services to provide solutions to our plants and our customers.

Principal Accountabilities:
•Lead or participate in multidisciplinary efforts or projects

•Design, carry out, and interpret experiments at laboratory, pilot, or plant scale
•Participate in all phases of product/process development, including discovery, laboratory development, characterization, and scale-up

•Develop deep understanding of CMNA process chemistries, including processing aids
•Provide expertise in use of specialized analytical instruments or other research tools


Requirements
Required:
•M.S. or Ph. D in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemistry plus a minimum of 3 years experience in process chemistry

•Demonstrated ability to function effectively on multidisciplinary teams

•Experience in experimental design, execution, and interpretation
•Knowledge of relevant analytical technologies
•Willing to work in laboratory, pilot plant, and plant environments
•Ability to communicate effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences

•Willing to travel (15 - 25%)
•Demonstrated understanding of chemical processes at the molecular level

Desired:
•In-depth knowledge in carbohydrate chemistry

•In-depth knowledge in process chemistry

•In-depth knowledge of organic chemistry
•In-depth knowledge in analytical chemistry

•In-depth knowledge in enzymology/enzyme kinetics

•Understanding of intellectual capital and property protection

•Project management experience

•Ability to lead
•Broad understanding of chemical principles

•Demonstrable sense of scientific curiosity
•Strong problem solving skills

•Experience in working in plant environments
