Applications are invited for a tenure-stream faculty position at the level of assistant or associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI). Candidates who have a PhD, M.D., or equivalent graduate degree are being recruited to expand expertise in breast cancer research at UPCI. The incumbent will have primary appointments in a Department within the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM). The UPCI has consistently been among the top NCI-funded and NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers located within the academic environment at the University of Pittsburgh. Combined with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, UPCI offers an active and highly interactive community of basic, translational and clinical research scientists. The institutions have several state-of-the-art facilities with varied capabilities including cell and tissue imaging, high-throughput drug discovery, and a cancer biomarkers facility with, genomics (including massively parallel sequencing) and proteomics platforms. The UPCI recently developed a new Women's Cancer Research Center (WCRC) with the goal of translating basic and translational research into improved patient care (www.upci.upmc.edu/wcrc). The WCRC plans to build upon the established clinical program in women's cancers, and develop a vibrant basic and translational program in women's cancer research. WCRC is interested in the recruitment of a candidate with a strong interest in translation breast cancer research. We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in mechanisms of microenvironment, cancer stem cells, genomic profiling, hormone action, therapeutic resistance, prevention, growth factor action, or cancer progression and metastasis. Understanding and expertise in molecular and cellular biology, breast cancer cell lines, mouse models and use of human tissues will be an advantage. In order to develop an outstanding, extramurally supported research program, the applicant must have excellent communication skills and publications in high-impact journals. Prior and current extramural support would be an advantage. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
