The Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a postdoctoral research position related to X-ray studies of high energy Galactic sources. The research topics will include using X-ray and multi-wavelength observations to probe the physical properties of accreting black holes and neutron stars and/or indentifying populations of hard X-ray sources discovered by NuSTAR and INTEGRAL in the Galactic Plane. The successful candidate will work on observations and results obtained with some of the following satellites: NuSTAR, Chandra, XMM-Newton, and Swift.
The anticipated start date for this full-time (100%) appointment is between January 2016 and October 2016. The initial appointment will be for two years, with a possibility of renewal.
Extension of the appointment is subject to performance and availability of funds.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. Benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage are included in the compensation package.
A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field is required by the start date. At the time of application, the basic minimum qualification is the completion of all degree requirements except the dissertation.
Preferred qualification: Experience with X-ray data and studies of X-ray populations, X-ray observations, multi-wavelength studies, and/or theory.
