Summary of Duties:
The Technology Commercialization Office is seeking an experienced technology transfer professional for the role of Director of Licensing, Biomedical Sciences, to join the team in commercializing life sciences inventions and discoveries at The Ohio State University. The Ohio State University performed $984 Million in research last year and consistently ranked in the top 20 institutions for research in the US. The Director of Licensing would be responsible for invention assessment, intellectual property protection strategies, market analysis and commercialization strategy, negotiating and structuring licensing, option and other related agreements. Providing guidance and oversight to a team of licensing managers in the life sciences area to ensure extremely high level of customer service to faculty and external stakeholders. Manages portfolio of intellectual property working with IP staff and outside counsel to achieve the appropriate level of claim protection. Guiding in drafting and negotiating options, licenses and other related agreements. Has the track record of creating strong relationship with faculty, administrators, licensees, and other stakeholders. Successful track record of marketing new technologies and guiding the licensing team in strategic marketing efforts for the Technology Commercialization Office. Has the ability to work in a complex organization and able to further the goals and objectives of technology transfer at The Ohio State University. The Director of Licensing will report directly to the Managing Director of Licensing.
Master’s Degree Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or related field or JD. 5+ years in licensing early stage intellectual property, preferably in a university setting; excellent management skills and written and oral communication skills; adept in negotiation, university policies, patent and recent changes in patent law, exceptional knowledge and network in industry licensing; proven ability of closing deals demonstrable through deal sheet; positive attitude and ability work in a team.
MBA; Certified Licensing Professional and/or Registered Technology Transfer Professional; PhD in Biomedical Sciences.
