Starting Salary Range: $32.53/hourly. Career employees who successfully complete six months of satisfactory service will move to $35.90/hourly.

The Division of Physical and Biological Sciences (PBSci) comprises six comprehensive departments offering a full range of bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees (Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Molecular, Cell & Developmental Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Earth Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics); three smaller departments offering graduate degrees in interdisciplinary fields (Astronomy & Astrophysics, Environmental Toxicology, and Ocean Sciences); and one small graduate professional program (Science Communication).
A full complement of graduate programs is enriched by access to state-of-the-art lab facilities and equipment and a variety of field study environments. Research is organized within individual departments, as well as formal organized research units, research centers, and interdisciplinary research clusters. The Division is the principal home to three major organized research units?the Institute of Marine Sciences, the Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics, and the University of California Observatories/Lick Observatory. Research affiliates include Federal and State agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) and the California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) Marine Wildlife Center.
PBSci Facilities staff members are responsible for planning, construction, renovation, relocation, and general oversight of approximately 470,000 assignable square feet (asf) in approximately 30 buildings on the main campus and coastal science campus. The division will add an additional 35,000 asf of space when the Coastal Biology Building and 2300 Delaware Renovations are completed in winter 2016/17.
Summary Statement of Duties
This position reports directly to the Physical and Biological Sciences (PBSci) Wood Shop supervisor. The PPM/Cabinetmaker will work with a high degree of independence and as part of the PBSci Wood Shop and Facilities teams to perform a variety of skilled tasks at the journey level, providing support for the PBSci division in the following areas: Fabrication and Construction, Moves, Earthquake Proofing, and Finish Work.
Ability to model safe work practices at all times.
Four years of demonstrated experience working in a professional woodworking shop, including substantial use, inspection, maintenance, and repair of all tools common to the trade, including table saws, jointers, planers, shapers, lathes, bandsaws, sanders, edge-banders, boring machines, vertical panel saws, etc.
Demonstrated ability to design and build from blueprints and complex sketches.
Ability to learn new technical and procedural information from a wide variety of sources, often done independently and without formal training.
Demonstrated ability to document designs or modifications and procedures.
