Department: Earth Science
The Science Writer/Web Specialist researches and works effectively to write copy for a wide variety of communications promoting the Rice University Department of Earth Sciences. This includes the production of a departmental magazine/newsletter, articles of faculty and key student education/research efforts and honors, and the coordination of such news with the School of Natural Sciences and Office of Public Affairs. Additionally there are faculty biographical profiles, award nominations, brochures, web pages and social media, marketing collateral, alumni surveys, and other types of materials that feature the department and its initiatives in education and research. In addition, the Science Writer edits communication materials for accuracy, effectiveness and Rice and AP style guidelines, and works with department/university faculty and staff to create materials that advance Rice and the School of Natural Sciences and its brand and marketing initiatives.
The Science Writer also responsible for web management using a variety of software technologies, such as Wordpress CMS. The Science Writer ensures that Rice University Department of Earth Science web sites are continuously updated with current and accurate information reflecting its numerous activities and initiatives. This position ensures that Web sites employ the most up-to-date technologies and follows university brand standards and industry best practices. The Science Writer writes and manages content, collaborates with department/university faculty, Web Services, and other stakeholders to ensure that department web sites are effective communication tools and are compliant with Rice and AP style guidelines.
