The University of Ottawa invites applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Computational Chemistry. Candidates are sought whose interests are at the interface of biochemistry and organic chemistry, and who propose to develop (or are already actively engaged in) a research program in computational chemistry. The successful candidate will have access to the resources of Compute Canada as well as the world-class Centre for Advanced Computing, and will benefit from on-site core facilities in NMR, mass spectrometry, and X-ray crystallography in the Faculty of Science, materials’ characterization and biocatalysis facilities that are part of the Centre for Catalysis Research and Innovation, and core facilities in the Department of Biology and at the Faculty of Medicine.
Tier 2 CRCs, tenable for five years and renewable once, are for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field (i.e., candidates have normally less than 10 years since obtaining their highest degree at the time of nomination). If the retained candidate earned his/her highest degree more than 10 years ago (e.g., career breaks such as maternity, parental or sick leave, clinical training, etc.), the candidate’s eligibility may be first assessed by the Chairs Program’s Tier 2 Justification process. New CRC nominees are also eligible for infrastructure support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to help acquire state-of-the-art equipment essential to their work.
Required Qualifications: A PhD or equivalent, superior research achievements in the CRC’s identified area(s) and proof of interdisciplinary collaborations, an exceptional profile with respect to teaching and training of students at graduate level, the ability to obtain external research funds, excellent communication skills in either English or French. A passive knowledge of the other official language would be an asset.
Rank and salary: Regular academic tenure-track appointment in the relevant Faculty, with a salary consistent with the collective agreement of the Association of Professors of the University of Ottawa.
