The Department of Chemistry at Portland State University (PSU) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate rank faculty position in Physical/Analytical Chemistry. This position is part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ interdisciplinary cluster hire focusing on Environmental Extremes (impacts, adaptations, and solutions) and includes additional faculty hires in the Departments of Biology, Physics, Environmental Science and Management, Geography, English, and Communication.
PSU is home to a number of successful interdisciplinary research initiatives, including the Center for Life in Extreme Environments (CLEE) and the Institute for Sustainable Solutions (ISS), and the State of Oregon has initiated three Signature Research Centers to support interdisciplinary work among academic, industrial, and government researchers: Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI), Oregon Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies Center (BEST), and the Oregon Translational Research and Drug Development Institute (OTRADI). In addition, the nearby Center for Advanced Materials Characterization in Oregon (CAMCOR) is a full-service, comprehensive materials characterization center providing enabling infrastructure for broad research in the materials fields. These initiatives and Centers create regional opportunities for resources and collaborations, connecting Oregon’s four public research universities (Portland State University, Oregon State University, the University of Oregon, and the Oregon Health Sciences University), the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL, Richland, WA), and the high tech industries in the “Silicon Forest”.
