The Department of Chemistry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the anticipated rank of assistant professor. Candidates with demonstrated research expertise in experimental analytical, inorganic, or materials chemistry are encouraged to apply. Highly qualified and more experienced candidates will also be considered at the tenured associate professor level. UAB is a comprehensive Tier 1 research university and medical center with more than 2,000 full-time faculty and 18,000 students as of Fall 2016. UAB is ranked 10th among public universities in the US in terms of NIH grant support. The Department of Chemistry is home to the Central Alabama High Field NMR Facility. UAB also has outstanding core facilities in molecular sciences (including EM, MS and X-ray), engineering, nanoscience, imaging, informatics, as well as translational and clinical research. The Department of Chemistry offers B.S. (ACS-Certified), M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, and has major research interests in drug discovery, structural biochemistry, biophysical chemistry, computational chemistry, and polymer/advanced materials.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in chemistry, postdoctoral or equivalent experience, a commitment to teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and the expectation of establishing or continuing an outstanding externally funded research program.
