The Research Integrity Specialist, Basic Science works independently and acts as an advanced professional resource in performing specialized and detailed guidance, review and final determination/resolution (as assigned) of research activities to determine conformity with federal and state regulations and OHSU policies. This position provides leadership to the OHSU community in the area of integrity by independent and advanced professional performance of the following:
1. Timely and accurate review in accordance with regulatory, policy, and process requirements;
2. Serve as the functional expert on electronic systems supporting research integrity, as applicable;
3. Deliver specific and on-going education for staff, review committee members, and the OHSU community;
4. Serve as an advanced professional resource for regulatory compliance and integrity; and
5. Assist management and leadership to improve processes within and across integrity areas and committees.
This position will work primarily within and across the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and Environmental Health and Radiation Safety (EHRS) programs. This position serves as a liaison and subject matter expert between the IACUC, IBC, EHRS, and other integrity programs as needed, to assure smooth and coordinated review processes for protocols involving animal subjects, recombinant DNA, and/or other hazardous agents. Work with leadership of both committees and EHRS to continually monitor and provide input to enhance the coordinated review processes.
The IACUC program oversees/manages animal subjects research protocols and documents from the OHSU research community and provides detailed analysis, assistance, and education regarding projects using animals for teaching or research. The IACUC program provides professional staff to assist and support OHSU's IACUC in its responsibility to oversee ethical and regulatory issues related to submitted protocols, the animal care and use program, and the OHSU research community.
The IBC oversees/manages the conduct of research with recombinant DNA (rDNA), synthetic nucleic acids, and infectious agents or biologically derived toxins. The IBC program provides professional staff to assist and support OHSUs IBC in its responsibility to oversee the safety of research procedures and regulatory issues related to submitted protocols.
EHRS oversees/manages the conduct of research with hazards chemicals and agents, and infectious or zoonotic disease organisms and general lab safety. EHRS provides professional staff to assist and support OHSU in its responsibility to assure the safety of personnel when such agents are used.
Projects and/or responsibilities in other integrity program areas may also be assigned.
