The Chemistry Department at Valparaiso University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of organic chemistry, beginning in August 2017. This is a new tenure track position to support the growing needs of the department and university. A PhD is required; previous teaching and post-doctoral experience is also desirable, but not required. Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and the ability to develop an active research program that engages and mentors undergraduate students.
Teaching responsibilities may include lecture and laboratory sections in organic chemistry courses and lecture and/or laboratory sections in general chemistry. Additional responsibilities in upper level chemistry courses may also be assigned based on the applicant's expertise and the needs of the department. The ability to develop advanced and interdisciplinary courses within the department and in conjunction with other departments or colleges within the university is valued.
Valparaiso University is a distinguished private university of 4500 students located in Valparaiso, IN, approximately one hour southeast of downtown Chicago. The Chemistry Department offers ACS certified degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry. In the summer of 2017 the Chemistry Department will move into a new 55,000 sq. ft. facility, Center for the Sciences: Chemistry and Biochemistry, which is the first phase of a planned 150,000 sq. ft. science complex on the Valparaiso University campus.
