Program Assistant, Interdisciplinary Program on Neuroscience (IPN)
The George Mason University, Interdisciplinary Program on Neuroscience (IPN) invites experienced academic professionals to apply for a Program Assistant position. Working approximately 25 hours per week, the incumbent will perform a wide scope of duties to support the financial, human resources, student services, academic and administrative operations of the program. Please note that this is a part-time position and the work schedule will not exceed an average of 29 hours per week. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Financial services such as reconciling the program's revenue and expense accounts, expenditure processing, and forecasting revenue to support strategic planning;
- Human resources duties such as initiating employee appointments, coordinating recruitments, contracts and work authorizations;
- Student services such as providing student advising, and serving as a resource to prospective and current students on matters pertaining to admissions, registration and degree completion compliance;
- Academic support such as scheduling classes across colleges, providing guidance to faculty on degree compliance issues, maintaining student files, and coordinating course catalog revisions; and
- Administrative support such as ordering office supplies, books, and course supplies via credit card (P-Card) and state-run ordering web portal (eVA).
Strong attention to detail, flexibility, the ability to work with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds, and a strong interest in student success will be critical for success in this position.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in an academic unit within a higher education environment and exposure to performing similar work.

Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field grounded in biology, chemistry and psychology. The Neuroscience Program at George Mason University offers an undergraduate B.S. degree, a minor in neuroscience, and a Ph.D. in neuroscience through collaboration between the College of Science and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Salary: Anticipated salary is $20-$25 per hour; commensurate with education and experience.
