University of California, Davis

The Davis campus of the University of California maintains state-of-the-art research facilities and provides ready access to world-class facilities for the study of grapes and wine. In 2011, the department opened the most advanced and sustainable winery in the world, co-located with their research and teaching laboratories in the Robert Mondavi Institute of Wine and Food Science, completed in 2008. In mid-2013, the department will open the next building in the complex, the Jess S. Jackson Sustainable Winery Building, focused on piloting sustainable processing ideas for the wine and other food and beverage industries. The collegial nature of the faculty encourages and supports collaborative interactions that may cross-departmental and/or college boundaries. The department resides within an internationally renowned land- grant institution dedicated to supporting California’s multi-billion dollar grape and wine industries. The community of Davis is centrally located to many of wine producing regions of California. The town of Davis is minutes from Sacramento, and offers a high quality of life in a University town setting, situated between the Sierra Nevada mountain range and the San Francisco Bay area.
