New Mexico State University
A comprehensive land-grant institution of higher learning, New Mexico State University was founded in 1888 as an agricultural college and preparatory school. Dedicated to teaching, research, and service at the undergraduate and graduate levels, NMSU is a NASA Space Grant College and Hispanic-serving institution.
The statewide system provides learning opportunities to all the citizens of the state through cooperative extension offices in the 33 New Mexico counties, 13 research and science centers statewide, campuses in Alamogordo, Carlsbad, Doña Ana County, Grants and Las Cruces, an Albuquerque Center and distance education programs.
Our statewide presence allows us to provide opportunities for teaching and learning, research and service to all of New Mexico and students across the country and around the world.
Enrollment
Total fall 2007 was 16,726, including 3,321 graduate students. Minority enrollment for the NMSU system was approximately 48% percent (41% percent Hispanic, 3.1 percent American Indian, 2.7 percent African-American and 1.2 percent Asian-American).
Faculty and staff
There are more than 1,100 faculty members, and almost 3,500 staff located on the Las Cruces campus.
Degrees and certifications
Certificates, licensure programs and associate degree programs are available from the colleges in Alamogordo, Carlsbad, Doña Ana County and Grants, and the College of Arts and Sciences in Las Cruces.
Bachelor and graduate degree programs are available through the following colleges based in Las Cruces: Agriculture and Home Economics, Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, Extended Learning, Health and Social Services, Honors, and the Graduate School. The Extended Learning College also provides a wide array of distance education programs.
Research
NMSU is a very active research university, with research and public service expenditures exceeding $140 million in 2005-2006.
Anchoring the southern end of New Mexico’s Rio Grande Research Corridor, NMSU is the only university to reach the platinum, or highest, level of service to NASA’s Space
