Sasol (USA) Corporation
About Sasol (USA) CorporationCommitted to excellence in all we do, Sasol is an international integrated energy and chemical company that leverages the talent and expertise of our more than 34,000 people working in 38 countries. In North America, Sasol is studying numerous expansion opportunities and already has operations in Houston, TX; Lake Charles, LA; Tucson, AZ; Hayward, CA; Richmond, CA, Baltimore, MD; Oil City, PA and Calgary, Canada. Sasol is expanding its existing Louisiana chemical operations with the development of a world-scale ethane cracker that will produce 1.5 million tons of ethylene and other downstream derivatives per year. The ethane cracker will enable Sasol to expand its differentiated ethylene derivatives business, while helping to strengthen U.S. manufacturing, boost exports and spur economic growth. The current project cost for the ethane cracker is estimated between $5 -$7 billion. The final investment decision is expected to be made in 2014. The gas-to-liquids facility (GTL) – a first for the U.S. and a true game-changer for America’s energy future – will convert natural gas into 96,000 barrels of GTL diesel and other valuable products. GTL diesel is virtually free of sulfur and aromatic compounds, cleaner-burning than conventional diesel with equivalent or lower greenhouse gas emissions. Its use for transportation – especially in older vehicles without advanced exhaust after treatment systems – reduces emissions of particulates and other pollutants helping to improve ambient air quality. GTL diesel also has a number of performance benefits including enhanced engine cleanliness, better cold start performance and positive impacts on lubricant condition and engine life. The current project costs for the GTL facility is estimated between $11 -$14 billion.
