Job Description: Candidates are sought for an immediate postdoctoral opening in the groups of Profs. Jessica Schiffman and John Klier. This position is supported by a robust industrial grant. The initial appointment will be for one year, with expectation for renewal. The position is subject to availability of funds. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.


The laboratories of Profs. Schiffman and Klier focuses on advanced polymer science, colloid and materials engineering. This specific project involves modifying thermoplastic polymers to enhance their adhesive properties, characterizing these polymers, measuring mechanical and adhesive performance, correlating properties with polymer structure and reporting results to sponsors and faculty. The position requires mentoring of junior researchers, manuscript and patent preparation and submission of proposals for further work. Requirements: Applicants must have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, or related engineering disciplines. Expertise in polymer processing, polymer modification, basic mechanical characterization and testing is desired. Candidates should be creative, personally motivated, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to work in an interdisciplinary environment. Special consideration will be given to individuals with innovative research ideas and aspirations.
