FACULTY POSITION IN GRAIN PROCESSING
Department of Grain Science and Industry - Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas
General Description of the Position: The Department of Grain Science and Industry is seeking applications for a 9-month tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level with 70% research and 30% teaching in the areas of grain processing with the expectation for a summer appointment.
The candidate is expected to conduct fundamental and applied research related to grain processing, including milling of wheat and other grains.
Potential areas of research include, but are not limited to, grain processing technologies, process automation and simulation, nutrition, food safety, and novel grain products.
The candidate is expected to obtain extramural support to establish a nationally and internationally recognized research program and provide a vision to address current and future needs of the global grain processing industries.
The candidate shall teach current and future undergraduate and graduate courses, covering subject matter in grain processing technologies, and develop courses in his/her area of expertise.
The candidate will provide effective academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students, help students with setting academic and career goals, and advise students to achieve academic requirements.
The candidate will provide co-leadership to the Milling Science and Management program.
The candidate will advise undergraduate clubs and serve on departmental, college and university committees and appropriate professional/industry associations.
The candidate will perform other duties as requested by the Department Head in keeping with the responsibilities of the appointment.
The candidate is expected to support diversity, collegiality, and must have the ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary setting.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in agricultural/biological/food engineering, food science, grain science or other relevant disciplines, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to speak English clearly, and a strong commitment to fostering and expanding diversity. The candidate must create and work in an environment that supports interdisciplinary, multi-programmatic, and multi-institutional teams.
Preferred Qualifications: A demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, secure extramural support, teach in a classroom setting, and engage the grain processing industry.
