Process Safety Engineer

Position Description:
We are seeking a Process Safety Engineer to join the Downstream Process Engineering Division of the Process and Control Systems Department.

The Downstream Process Engineering Division is responsible for providing support to Saudi Aramco upstream and downstream as well as Oil producing facilities in the area of flare, pressure relief systems and process safety.

The Process Safety Engineer primary role involves providing innovative solutions to problems for process safety and flare and relief systems at the oil and gas process units and performing process risk assessments including flare system design analysis and selection. Comprehensive experience is required in applying technical analysis in chemical process operations at chemical or oil refinery production facilities. Required experience also involves analyzing chemical process safety practices, process safety information, training and performance, procedures (e.g. layers of protection and Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), human factors, mechanical integrity of equipment, root cause determination, chemical process engineering, equipment design, process instrumentation, flare and relief design, distributive control systems, and safe operating limits. In addition, the candidate will support Saudi Aramco capital programs with regards to inherently safe design from process safety perspective at various stages from inception to project completion. This includes participating in screening study, development of design basis document, reviewing Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&ID), Front-end Engineering and Design (FEED), project specifications, detailed engineering documents, and providing technical support during construction and commissioning activities.

Minimum Requirements:
s the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering OR Mechanical Engineering from a recognized and approved program. An advanced degree is preferred. Additional experience in process safety may substitute as an advanced degree equivalent.

You will have at least nine years of experience in design and operating experience in Oil & Gas Plants (refinery-gas plant).

You must possess proficient knowledge and experience with the identified simulation packages

You must demonstrate knowledge of process safety concepts including process safety information, heat and material balances, relief and flare design

Strong Interpersonal communications skills is required

Must have excellent computer skills

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills are required

Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following:

Support process designs and selections based on design background and experience.
Support and troubleshoot existing process safety related issues including flare and pressure relief systems at Saudi Aramco plants. Be able to identify areas of improvement towards better design selections or alternative selection.

Conduct optimization/sizing evaluation for protection of process equipment including the use of flare system modelled in proven process simulators (FlareNet, Visual Flare).

Provision of advanced expert advice on optimal protection system by reviewing the operation, performance and layers of protection concept.

Provide necessary inputs to the facilities planning department to develop Design Basis Scoping Paper (DBSP) for new capital or revamp project. In addition, participate with other SA organizations during Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Value Engineering study of the project.

Coach and mentor young recruits and less experienced staff.

Initiate, lead and benchmark safe process designs thereby ensuring Saudi Aramco's worldwide leading position in this area and incorporating state of the art designs to mitigate loss of containment.

Provide constructive, technical feedback based on process safety knowledge (including flare and relief systems knowledge and experience) to modify or improve Saudi Aramco standards
