DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED BIOLOGY AND CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY
The Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology is a multi-disciplinary department in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with diversified specialties in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering and food science. The Department’s research focus is in the interdisciplinary areas of chemistry and biology. The Department has about 42 faculty members. Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Organic Synthesis / Chemical Technology / Green Chemistry (several posts)
The appointees will be required to (a) conduct lectures, practical sessions and tutorials at taught master’s and undergraduate levels in Organic Synthesis, Chemical Technology, Green Chemistry, Renewable Energy and/or related disciplines; (b) supervise MPhil and PhD students; (c) establish a vigorous research programme at the cutting edge of organic synthesis, green chemistry, renewable energy, various technologies of chemical technology, and engage in other scholarly activities; and (d) contribute to departmental and programme administration as well as curriculum development.
Applicants should (a) have a PhD degree in the field of Organic Synthesis, Chemical Technology, Green Chemistry, or Renewable energy or related areas; (b) have relevant post-qualification experience in teaching and research; (c) have an excellent publication record in peer-reviewed international journals, especially in the areas of organic synthesis, chemical technology, green chemistry or renewable energy; (d) be highly motivated and possess creative talents to develop and apply the state-of-the-art techniques in the areas of safety and quality of foods from the farm to the consumer with a focus on utilization of advanced technologies, pathogenesis, proteomic and genomic as well as other molecular-based approaches to control environmental as well as food-borne pathogens; (e) have an established track record in obtaining external funding/research grants; and (f) be able to demonstrate evidence of possession of effective classroom teaching skills.
Preference will be given to those who have an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology or any related disciplines.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointments for Assistant Professor will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. An appropriate term will be provided for appointment at Associate Professor level.
