The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, as one of core academic colleges of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), was established in September, 2004. Its predecessor can be traced back to the Department of Chemistry of Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (GUCAS). According to the overall strategic plan of CAS, the school is administrated by the Institute of Chemistry, in conjunction with the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, Institute of Process Engineering, and more than ten other institutes of CAS. The school has seven divisions including Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science and Materials, Chemical Engineering, and Chemical Experiment and Comprehension.

The Long-Term Thousand Talents Program
The Long-Term Thousand Talents Program offers full-time positions to overseas Chinese applicants under 55 years old who have received their doctorates from an overseas distinguished university and work as professors or an equivalent position at an accredited academic institution. Hired employees will be required to work full-time in UCAS and will be awarded grants of RMB ¥3,000,000 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In addition, the candidate will receive an allowance (free of tax) of RMB ¥1,000,000 from the Chinese government. They will also receive RMB ¥600,000-800,000 per year and RMB ¥3,000,000-6,000,000 research funding from UCAS.
The Thousand Talents Program for Distinguished Young Scholars
The Thousand Talents Program for Distinguished Young Scholars invites overseas Chinese applicants under 40 years old who have received their doctorates and have three-year international teaching. Applicants should be qualified scientists or engineers who have leadership potential in their respective fields. For recent graduates who have graduated from an international university and have outstanding academic achievement in their graduate study and other distinguished scholars with scientific merit, the age restriction and employment period will be waived. Those scholars accepted will be employed full-time in UCAS with RMB ¥1,000,000-3,000,000 in research funding from the Chinese central government and RMB ¥1,000,000 research funding from UCAS. They will also receive an allowance (free of tax) of RMB ¥1,400,000 from the Chinese central government, CAS and UCAS.
