The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Crop Protection and Quality Research Unit at the San Joaquin Valley Agricultural Research Center is seeking researchers:
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (natural products chemist) for a ONE YEAR APPOINTMENT not to exceed four consecutive years. Ph.D. is required. GS-11/12 salary is commensurate with experience ($ 59,246 - $71,012 per annum) plus benefits. In the context of reducing pest pressures on California commodities, the incumbent will isolate, synthesize, and bioassay natural products that mediate plant-insect interaction. Major research foci include 1) the chemical characterization of natural abiotic strategies for releasing semiochemicals into the environment and 2) the development of “controllable” chemistries for creating and degrading linkages between bioactive semiochemicals and inactive precursory forms. Experience in bioassay-driven discovery and expertise in mass spectrometry is desirable. Research will be conducted at the USDA-ARS-SJVASC facility in Parlier, California. Send CV, representative publications, and references to Dr. Spencer Walse via e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com). Citizenship restrictions may apply. USDA-ARS is an equal opportunity employer.
