Chair, Department of Chemistry, Illinois Institute of Technology
The Department of Chemistry at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) seeks a dynamic individual to serve as Chair beginning in the 2018-19 academic year. The candidate must have proven records of leadership in academic settings, strong research and publications, significant external funding, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A Ph.D. in Chemistry is required with a current academic rank of tenured full professor (or equivalent non-U.S. rank), and leadership experience applicable to an administrative position in an institution of higher education with a distinguished record of research and of teaching. The Chair is expected to provide active leadership by overseeing strategic planning, promoting the department's visibility and growth (including ties outside of academia), and outreach and fundraising efforts. The Chair also handles instructional planning with the Associate Chair and oversees collaborative grants. The Chair shall evaluate faculty for tenure and promotion decisions, as well as provide mentoring to individual faculty. Additional duties include overseeing curriculum and program development, resource allocation, instructional and administrative staffing, and reviewing and reporting.
