The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor in Biochemistry in the Department of Chemistry beginning August 2018.
PhD in Biochemistry or related area. Postdoctoral experience or undergraduate teaching experience is desired. The department is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in biophysical chemistry but strong candidates in other areas of biochemistry will also receive full consideration. Candidates who bring diverse viewpoints to their teaching and research efforts are particularly encouraged to apply.
Faculty are assigned an instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year for the first year. Beginning the second year the workload reverts back to the standard instructional workload of seven to eight (7-8) course units per academic year with the possibility of reassigned time for scholarship or additional service. Teach upper level biochemistry courses as well as general chemistry courses at the introductory level. Establish a competitive research program that can involve undergraduate students and pursue external funding.
Department of Chemistry:
The Department of Chemistry (www.towson.edu/fcsm/departments/chemistry/) is ACS accredited, with 19 tenured or tenure-track faculty, actively engaged in externally funded research involving undergraduates and graduate students. The department enrolls over 400 undergraduates in chemistry, forensic chemistry and chemistry secondary education and 45 graduate students in the Forensic Science Masters Program. The department supports interdisciplinary programs in Environmental Science and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics (MBBB). Additional collaborative opportunities may be available with science faculty in the departments of Biology, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics Astronomy & Geosciences.
