Teaching Post-Doctoral Fellowship / Visiting Professor
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks candidates for a teaching post-doctoral fellowship. This position is also suitable for Visiting Professors. UAB is a comprehensive Tier 1 research university and medical center with more than 2,000 full-time faculty and 20,000 students as of Fall 2017. UAB is ranked 10th among public universities in the US in terms of NIH grant support. The Department of Chemistry is home to the Central Alabama High Field NMR Facility, and also has outstanding core facilities in the molecular sciences, as well as translational and clinical research. The Department of Chemistry offers B.S. (ACS-Certified), M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, and has major research interests in drug discovery, structural biochemistry, biophysical chemistry, computational chemistry, nanoscience, and polymer/advanced materials.
Responsibilities include lecturing in undergraduate organic chemistry, writing and grading exams and recitation worksheets, supervising teaching assistants, and conducting post-doctoral research with a sponsoring faculty mentor in the chemistry department. Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in chemistry or biochemistry, an outstanding record of research, and a commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.

The anticipated start date is Spring, 2018, pending budgetary and administrative approval. The teaching post-doctoral fellow is expected to serve for two years, with the initial appointment for one year, plus the possibility of renewal for the second year.
