Senior Chemist Director of Fate and Metabolism
Position is responsible for direction of specific analyses and operation of standard analytical Instrumentation. Supervision of the professional and technical staff may be a job responsibility as well, including assisting the Director of Chemistry with reviews, and accounting of time worked. The Senior Chemist is expected to take initiative and develop novel approaches to analytical methods quickly, and have enough experience with different types of methodology to provide themselves as a reference source for other analytical chemists in the facility. Additionally, the individual must be able to represent Smithers Viscient to clients both over the phone and in person, and transmit a professional image. The person will develop new methodology and new technologies for analysis of substances. After method development, transmission of an understanding of the methods to professional and technical help is done. Results of analyses supervised are compiled and reported to various personnel in the facility, as well as clients. Duties include training technicians, performing analyses with laboratory equipment, instrument calibration; reviews and project tracking.
B.S. degree in chemistry or related field and 7 years of relevant laboratory experience. Masters or PhD is preferred Previous experience in a supervisory capacity is a plus. Proficient in documentation and procedures required by Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations and SMV Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Proficient in using the following equipment.
1. Analytical balance
2. GC or HPLC
4. UV/Vis Spectrophotometer
6. Rotary evaporator
Director of Fate & Metabolism
Position is responsible for the direction and supervision of a staff dedicated to conducting a broad range of regulated studies. The Director, Environmental Fate & Metabolism provides a group of regulated testing services, including biological support for regulated products, primarily crop protection products, pharmaceutical and industrial chemicals. Individual is responsible for the management and supervision of subordinate activities related to the conduct, analysis, evaluation and reporting of contracted studies. Ensures conformance to technical, quality assurance and financial performance objectives. Responsible for fiscal management of the department, including PL management, responsible for developing ROI for procurement of capital requests or recommendations, budgeting and forecasting. Ensuring systems are in compliance with GLP Standards. Collaborates with other Department Directors to assure overall facility financial performance. Utilizes skills and knowledge to gain and maintain new customers.
B.S. degree in Chemistry or related field and 10 years or more of experience in an area of expertise. Masters or PhD is preferred. Prior management experience is required. Must have depth and breadth of technical and budgetary experience to lead and manage a team of scientists in the laboratory as well as promote company expertise among a client base to gain future customers. Previous experience with P & L is a plus. Demonstrated management and supervisor experience mandatory. Technical skills in regulated studies is mandatory. Client interaction skills, as well as excellent verbal, written and organizational skills. Proficient in documentation and procedures required by Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations.
