(2) Postdoctoral Research Scholars
Two postdoctoral positions in the area of protein-nucleic acid interaction studies are available in the Institute of Molecular Biology and the Center for Optical, Molecular and Quantum Science at the University of Oregon.
Two NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are available in a joint research program in the laboratories of Professor Andrew H. Marcus and Professor Peter H. von Hippel at the University of Oregon. Our joint studies focus on nucleic acid-protein and protein-protein interactions involved in controlling the assembly, structure, dynamics and function of DNA replication and RNA transcription complexes.
One position will center on the refinement and application of microsecond time-resolved single-molecule fluorescence spectroscopy to the study of the biomolecular conformation changes that accompany biological function in these ‘macromolecular machines of gene expression’. Applicants for this position should have a doctorate with appropriate research experience in single-molecule fluorescence spectroscopy and optics, together with a strong interest in applying such approaches to the study of biological systems.
The other position will involve primarily solution studies of the protein-nucleic interactions involved in the assembly, structure and function of these complexes. Applicants for this position should have a doctorate with appropriate research experience in physical biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as a strong interest in getting involved in a joint program involving optical and spectroscopic studies of protein-nucleic acid complexes.
Applicants for both positions should also have strong writing and communication skills, interest in gaining experience in the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate research students and the desire to work in a dynamic research environment that merges chemical and physical approaches to central biological problems.
Both positions will be open until filled, but consideration of applicants will begin at the end of November 2017.
Prospective candidates should send their application materials to Kathy Campbell (email@example.com), with subject line: “Joint Marcus / von Hippel postdoctoral research position.” Application materials should include a CV, the names and addresses of three professional references, and a cover letter outlining their research experience and interests.
